Life After the Greenville Knit In/Road Trip

Hey All!

Joyce and Kaye are back from Greenville and both came back with colds. They both attended the Wednesday Meetup at Panera Bread. Joyce took 2 classes, a felted rose class and a steeking class. She enjoyed both classes but she felt that the sweater she had for the steeking was not the best choice. It was so tightly knit that it was hard to pick up stitches. The class itself was great but she didn't benefit as much as she would have wanted.

One of the things I love about meetups is the array of topics that flow. Today's topics ranged from bullying amongst today's children, to big head children, to the classes that were taken in Greenville, and Christina had some great new books on knitting in the round.

You'll have to attend the February meeting to hear about Kaye's classes and experience in Greenville. Don't wait to tell all the goodies from that weekend.

Also who is down for a road trip to Raleigh, NC, March 23rd-24th from 9am-6pm for the 12th Annual Carolina FiberFest? Please comment below if you're interested. We need to decide if we'll make it a one day trip or stay overnight and enjoy both days. Look at the available workshops here carolinafiberfest.org. There is also a 1st Annual CFF Knit-Along for the SpringDrops Cowl. The free pattern is available on the website for now. It will be available on Ravelry after the festival.

January 2018 Meeting

Welcome 2018!!

The January 23rd meeting was a great start to 2018! There were some return members and some new faces as well. There was an array of knitting accessories and knitting related items that were shown for show and tell. Cathy shared that the number of items donated to various charities in 2017 were a whopping 250! The kids from Flowertown Elementary even sent the cutest thank you notes for their hats. Let's see if we can top that number in 2018. We are already off to a good start as a few members who are attending the Knit In in Greenville, SC, Feb. 2- Feb 4, took some red hats for the Red Cross babies.

Suzy showed us the nuances of Sequence knitting and we each knit a swatch to try and get the hang of it.

For our February 27th meeting Joyce and Kaye will share with us their experience from the Knit In. Lynn Dukes will be showing us how to knit Dr. Seuss hats for bookmarks that will be donated to Flowertown Elementary school. Lynn will provide the yarn.

February Meeting

Hello Guild,

 Our January 26^th meeting was a great start to the New Year. There were some return members and some new members. Please help me in welcoming Carla and Patti. We also had an array of knitting accessories and knitting related items that were shown for the show and tell.

 The next meeting is February 23^rd and Joyce will be teaching us how to knit Christmas Stockings in a 2 part class that will continue for the March 22^nd meeting as well. The Christmas Stocking classes will contain a plethora of information like using charts, Fair Isle and multi-color knitting just to name a few. So here is what you will need to do before the meeting and bring to the February meeting.

 To Do:

1.      Decide what weight of WOOL yarn you want to use. Sport, DK or Worsted.

2.      Pick out the pattern or patterns that you want.

a.      You can pick one large pattern or several shorter row patterns that are only 15 rows tall for example.

b.      Your stocking can have designs on one or both sides.

c.      Your color choices are vast.

Here are suggestions for places to find patterns. Remember you do not have to do an exact replica of an existing stocking. You can take a piece from this one and the colors from that one and so on.

1.      www.ravelry.com

2.      www.tricksyknitter.com – this website has a Chartmaker feature with a log of other people published charts and the capability to design and save your own charts.

3.      www.craftsy.com –  type “charts in patterns” in the search field on the site and it will give you a list.

4.      Pattern books, dictionaries or collections.

 

To Bring:

1.      Yarn

2.      Patterns

3.      Bobbins

4.      Stitch markers

5.      Needles for the weight yarn that you have chosen

New Year.....New Knitting

Happy New Year!

Our next meeting is coming up this Tuesday the 26th of January. The program for the meeting is Show and Tell and Misbehaving Projects.

The homework for this meeting is to round up your favorite projects and bring them to show off. If you have a project or two that you need help with bring them as well, someone else in the guild may be able to give you the help you need.

Also remember that this is the first meeting of the new year and your membership can be renewed. Yearly dues is $20 or $5 for this month's meeting if you do not want to join for the year. All are welcome, bring your neighbor and/or a friend.

We will also plan classes for the coming year. Next month Joyce will get us started on a color work Christmas Stocking. Start thinking of what you want to learn or what you want to teach!

We will be meeting on the 26th at 6:00 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in downtown Summerville on the corner of Central and W 2nd S St one block past The Village Knittery.

Dying worksop

Don't  forget.....July 18th at 10:00am we are holding the dying workshop at the Lydia Yarn studio! See the information on Ravelry and contact Angela for directions!
Come dye yarn, roving or try some sock blanks! We had so much fun the last time, we just had to do it again!

FEBRUARY MEETING CANCELLED

Due to potentially hazardous road conditions and freezing temperatures tomorrow night the meeting on February 24 will be cancelled.

The Double Knitting class will be rescheduled for later in the year.

February Guild Meeting

February's guild meeting is 2 weeks away on Tuesday the 24th.



February's class will be Double Knitting taught by Victoria Williams. We will be knitting a small 2 sided sheep swatch, like the one pictured here.

 

There is homework for this class. You need to watch this Youtube video on how to do a Double Knitting Cast On.

Materials: 

- 2 different colors of worsted weight yarn. The more drastic the color difference the better.

- Size 8US needles if you knit tight and size 7US if you knit loose. Any configuration of needles will do.

- Stitch marker
